WHAT IS A HEALTHY BLADDER?
The bladder is an organ that is a temporary reservoir that holds urine. When you go to the toilet, your bladder outlet muscles (e.g. pelvic floor) relax and your bladder contracts which leads to wee-ing.
What does a healthy bladder look like? 🚽
Signs of what a healthy bladder looks like include:
○ Empty your bladder around 8 times per day.
○ You wake up maximum twice during the night to use the bathroom. 🌙
○ The bladder will tell you it is full but gives you enough time to find a bathroom.
○ You can completely empty your bladder when you go to the toilet.
○ You don't experience any leaks. ✅
Bladder problems are more common than you think. In Australia alone, 1 in 3 women, 1 in 10 men and 1 in 5 children have a bladder problem.
People who experience accidental leaks may be suffering from urinary incontinence. If this is the case, there are many resources out there where you can get the support you need such as the Continence Foundation of Australia. You can visit their website or even speak to a continence nurse ☎️ (1800 33 00 66). They have a plethora of information regarding incontinence.
